Welcome to Barmy Soda Co.
Small-batch. Big flavor. Naturally.

Since 2010, Barmy Soda Co. has been handcrafting bold, all-natural sodas in the heart of Pittsburgh’s East End. Founded by brewer-turned-soda-maker Brendan Benson, the company began with a simple idea: make sodas with real ingredients that people actually want to drink.

The first creation—a richly spiced root beer—was an instant hit, pouring by the glass, selling by the can, and even finding its way into kegs. That early success sparked a new vision: a full line of soda that didn’t rely on artificial flavors, syrups, or shortcuts.

Barmy’s second flavor, a truly spicy ginger beer, set the tone for everything that followed. Made with fresh-pressed ginger and lime juice, it delivered real heat, real citrus, and real refreshment. Whether you’re drinking it straight, soothing an unsettled stomach, or mixing up a cocktail, this ginger beer doesn’t hold back.

From those first batches, Barmy Soda Co. has stayed committed to small-scale, hands-on production. Every soda is made using fresh juice, natural cane sugar, and simple ingredients you can actually recognize. No preservatives, no weird aftertaste—just crisp, clean flavor.

By 2020, Barmy had grown from a brewery side project to a recognizable name around Pittsburgh. Today, our sodas and seltzers can be found in restaurants, grocery stores, cafes, bars, and university campuses across the city. In-house canning allows for full control over quality, and a rotating lineup of seasonal flavors keeps things playful and creative.

Barmy’s core lineup includes flavor-forward sodas like Root Beer, Ginger Beer, and Grapefruit, alongside a bright, sugar-free seltzer line with options like Hopped, Lemon, Orange, and more. Limited-edition batches celebrate seasonal ingredients and spontaneous inspiration—always made with the same care and curiosity that sparked our very first pour.

At Barmy Soda Co., we believe great ingredients make great sodas. That’s why we compost all fruit waste, keep batches small, and craft every can with intention. It’s not about following trends. It’s about making soda that’s worth drinking.

Still small. Still scrappy. Still proud to do things the right way.
