October at Barmy: Gather, Sip, and Celebrate Local Flavor

October brings a shift in rhythm — cooler mornings, slower evenings, and more reasons to gather. It’s the season for fireside talks, markets, and weekend brunches with friends. Around here, we like to think those moments deserve good company, great food, and a drink made with care.

This month, we’re raising a can to fall flavors, neighborhood partners, and all the ways Barmy fits into the season — from Root Beer on taproom shelves to Halloween cocktails at home.

🧡 Root Beer — From Brunch Tables to Brewery Shelves

Our Barmy Root Beer is nostalgia done right — smooth, spiced, and made with real cane sugar. It’s the flavor that started it all, and it’s still one of our most loved.

You can now find Barmy Root Beer in cans at:
🥣 Wise County Biscuits — perfect with their flaky Southern-style biscuits.
🌾 Frankferd Farms — a natural food pioneer bringing great ingredients and local products to homes across the region.
🍎 East End Food Co-op — a longtime supporter of community and sustainability.
🍺 East End Brewing — where our craft soda sits proudly next to some of Pittsburgh’s favorite beers.

Each of these spots carries Barmy in cans — chilled, easy to grab, and perfect for sharing.

Try this at home:

Root Beer Autumn Old Fashioned

  • 3 oz Barmy Root Beer

  • 1½ oz bourbon or rye whiskey

  • ¼ oz maple syrup

  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Orange peel + cinnamon stick

Stir whiskey, syrup, and bitters over ice, top with Root Beer, and garnish. Smooth, spiced, and simple — the kind of drink that tastes like fall.

🍊 Orangeaide — Bright Flavor for Cooler Days

Our Orangeaide brings warmth and brightness to autumn’s table. Made with real orange juice and zest, it’s citrus done right — balanced, bold, and crisp enough to cut through hearty fall meals.

This month, we’re giving it a little Halloween flair:

Witch’s Citrus Spell – Halloween Cocktail

  • 5 oz Barmy Orangeaide

  • 1½ oz vodka

  • ½ oz ouzo

  • 2½ oz orange juice

  • 1 oz lemon juice

  • ¼ oz agave syrup

  • Ice cubes

  • Garnish: orange slice + black licorice “wand”

Shake everything except the Orangeaide with ice. Strain into a glass of fresh ice, top with Orangeaide, and swirl with your licorice wand. The hint of anise from the ouzo makes this cocktail quietly complex — bright, aromatic, and festive without being too sweet.

It’s the perfect sip for a Halloween party or cozy night in.

🍦 Cream Soda – Smooth Comfort in a Can

Our Cream Soda is comfort in a can — velvety vanilla, light fizz, and real cane sugar. It’s simple, satisfying, and universally loved.

When the air gets cooler, we turn it into a soft, creamy mocktail that fits any fall gathering:

Vanilla Fog Mocktail

  • 4 oz Barmy Cream Soda

  • 2 oz chilled earl grey tea

  • ½ oz vanilla syrup or honey

  • A splash of oat milk

  • Garnish: nutmeg or crushed lavender

Shake tea, syrup, and milk with ice, then strain into a glass and top with Cream Soda. It’s calm, cozy, and caffeine-friendly — great for markets, book clubs, or slow Sunday afternoons.

🥣 Local Spotlight: Wise County Biscuits

We’re proud to share cooler space with Wise County Biscuits, one of Pittsburgh’s best spots for handmade, southern-style biscuits. You’ll find Barmy cans of Root Beer, Cream Soda, Orangeaide, Ginger Beer, and Grapefruit Soda tucked beside their pastry case — the perfect pairing for breakfast, brunch, or a midmorning pick-me-up.

They’ve been part of the Barmy story for years, and we’re grateful for every small business that keeps craft on the menu.

🎃 Ways to Bring Barmy Into Your Fall Gatherings

  • Brunch & Breakfast Pairings: Cream Soda with cinnamon pastries or Root Beer with pancakes.

  • Community Events: Keep Barmy cans cold and ready at markets, galleries, or maker pop-ups.

  • At-Home Cocktail Stations: Use Orangeaide, Limeaide, and Ginger Beer as mixers for simple, crowd-pleasing drinks.

  • Sober-Friendly Celebrations: Mix up mocktails — Cream Soda, Lemon Seltzer, and Cranberry Lime make it easy to celebrate without alcohol.

  • Brewery & Co-op Stops: Pick up cans at East End Brewing or East End Food Co-op to keep your fridge stocked.

Looking Ahead

November brings the return of our Cranberry Lime seasonal — tart, bright, and made for holidays and shared tables. We’ll be sharing new punch, cocktail, and mocktail recipes soon, just in time for festive gatherings.

Until then, find your flavor, grab a few cans, and keep it Barmy.
